In around three weeks’ time, fan-favourite movie series, the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries will be making its long overdue return to Hallmark. But when the film series returns, it will have a new look.

Moving forward (at least for now anyway), the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries series is turning back the clock to tell a whole new story set in Aurora’s past. The new movie – the 19th in the series – will act as a prequel to the existing films, with Skyler Samuels playing the young Aurora, taking over from Aurora regular, Candace Cameron Bure.

Samuels has a number of acting credits to her name, having already played the title character in ABC Family’s Nine Lives of Chloe King, as well as a lead role in Fox’s Scream Queens. Other roles include parts in the Marvel series, The Gifted, as well as a role in the big budget movie, The Meg 2.

Joining Samuels in the new film is a cast that includes Evan Roderick and Marilu Henner. Roderick is known for roles in Secrets of a Marine’s Wife and Arrow, while Henner is no stranger to Aurora Teagarden fans, having previously played the part of Aida Teagarden.

The official blurb for Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New (via Hallmark) reads as follows:

“Post-college, Young Aurora Teagarden (Samuels) finds herself back home near her mother, Aida (Henner) in Lawrenceton to pursue her grad degree. Working as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class, Aurora is struggling to settle on a thesis.

“To support her schooling and life, Aurora also waitresses at the local diner at night, where she shares her love of researching true crime with her friend Sally, who is set to be married, and police officer Arthur (Roderick). When Sally’s fiancé doesn’t show up at the wedding rehearsal, Maid of Honor Aurora gets Arthur to help her search for him.

“When they discover a body, everyone assumes it is Sally’s tardy groom, but when it turns out to be someone else, Sally’s fiancé becomes the main suspect.”
