Heading to streaming very shortly is the girtty South Korean series, Black Knight. The show – written and directed by Cho Ui-seok – is set in a future where following a disastrous comet strike, only one percent of the population live, and a brutal social heirarchy determines who has resources to survive.
According to Netflix, “In this harsh wasteland, deliverymen known as “knights” play an indispensable role in keeping people alive by delivering parcels of oxygen and other necessities. Former refugee 5-8, played by Kim Woo-bin, takes on this job and recruits others from the lowest rungs of society to help him overthrow the hierarchy.”
5-8 acts as a lifeline to many, by delivering important items during the day. However, he also works tirelessly to overthrow the Cheonmyeong Group – the rulers of this new world.

Joining 5-8 actor Kim Woo-bin in Black Knight is a cast which includes Song Seung-heon, and Esom. Seung-heon plays the role of a ruthless heir to the Cheonmyeong Group, while Esom takes on the part of Seol-ah, a Major at the Defense Intelligence Command.
Black Knight is described as a sci-fi, action-adventure series, which is based on the webtoon, Delivery Knight. The original toon was written by Lee Yoon-gyun.

One of the key aspects of this new series is the impressive visual effects, which bring Black Knight‘s premise to life. Leading visual effects studio, Westworld, is behind the visual imagery in the series, which include decayed landmarks such as Gangam Street, N Seoul Tower, and the Hangang Bridge.
Approximately 180 effects artists worked on the project, spending more than ten months creating this apocalyptic world in post-production. The team collected as much data as possible on sandstorms and yellow dust, in order to portray the bleak and deadly landscape of the dunes.
Westworld’s Visual Effects Supervisor, Lee Byung Ju, said: “The main road in Gangnam required the most dedication and hard work. It’ll be particularly fascinating for viewers to compare the real-life intersection with what has been recreated on screen through VFX,”

According to Netflix, another key component of Black Knight is said to be its “exhilarating action sequences, including heart-stopping car chases on sand dunes, intense firefights, and expertly choreographed hand-to-hand combat.”
From all accounts, there will be plenty going on in the new series, with lots of action and drama to keep viewers interested. The show serves up a dystopian future, but there’s still hope amongst the darkness, and this should ensure streamers remain engaged.
Should you wish to stream Black Knight, to see how the story and drama unfolds, the new series will be landing on Netflix on Friday May 12th.
