Since making its debut on September 24th 2010, the US police procedural series, Blue Bloods has built up a huge and loyal following. The show, which counts the likes of Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Tom Selleck amongst its cast, focuses on a family of New York police officers, and has entertained millions for more than a decade.

Over the years, Blue Bloods has clocked up multiple fan-favourite episodes across its seasons, but have you ever wondered what episode is the favourite amongst the cast? Well, in a recent interview with TV Insider, Tom Selleck has revealed which episode is his favourite.

The actor, who plays the role of Commissioner Frank Reagan on the hit show, said the episode he likes the most is The Job. Speaking to TV Insider, Selleck said:

“The one that will always be my favourite is “The Job,” in which you found out that Frank was in the World Trade Center’s North Tower on 9/11.”

He continued: “It was quite stirring because 9/11 was still fresh in people’s minds. It was hard for me to be strong as an actor, not to break down because Frank is tougher than that. My friend F. Murray Abraham played a (psychologist, Leon Goodwin) but Frank doesn’t like psychologists.

“The episode winds up dealing with the people who got sick from being there at the time. We were the first show allowed to show the Trade Center Memorial, right after it was finished.”

The episode that Selleck refers to is the twelfth episode from the show’s second season (the 34th episode overall). The Job was directed by Nick Gomez and written by Brian Burns.

Burns has been a writer on 45 episodes of Blue Bloods (so far), and amongst his portfolio is the 100th episode (Baggage), as well as the 250th episode (Guilt). And speaking of the 250th episode, Selleck is extremely happy that Blue Bloods has had the longevity it has, reaching such an impressive milestone as 250 episodes.

Commenting on the achievement, he said: “The number of series that have done as many episodes as Blue Bloods is a tiny, tiny percentage. This is a validation that we’re all fighting the good fight.”

What’s interesting to note is that once upon a time Selleck was unsure of taking on a role in Blue Bloods, through fear it could cause problems with the production of his Jesse Stone movies. However, he was sold on joining the show thanks in large part because of how much he liked the initial script.

But good script or no good script, as far as Selleck was concerned, Stone came first. In fact, being able to continue making Jesse Stone movies was of the upmost importance to him and this was a deciding factor.

In a 2011 interview with Metro World News, which was conducted as Blue Bloods was just getting off the ground, Selleck mentioned his admiration for Stone, commenting: “I love that character and it’s really successful. So, the first thing I said when I went in (for Blue Bloods) was, “I’m not doing this at the expense of Jesse Stone,” and (CBS) said, “We don’t want you to. Jesse is a home run for us.” So that was nice.”

Thankfully for both his fans and himself, Selleck has managed to play both Frank Reagan and Jesse Stone, creating some unforgettable stories in the process. And of course, giving Selleck his favourite episode of Blue Bloods too!
