Last night in the US, the latest Aurora Teagarden Mysteries movie made its debut. The film – Haunted by Murder – launched on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries at 9/8c, to become the 18th entry in the popular mystery series.
To make this film stand out from its predecessors, Haunted by Murder introduced a spooky slant to the story, with events centred around the ‘haunted’ Crenshaw Mansion. The film also featured a few call-backs to the past, to highlight some of the early adventures of Aurora and her friends.
But how did the movie go down with fans? Was it another hit?
Well, if the response from Twitter is anything to go by, Haunted by Murder went down very well. The online response was largely very positive.

As is common practise, whenever a new Hallmark movie makes its debut, fans take to Twitter to interact with the channel and air their views – and last night with Haunted by Murder, those views were all in favour of this latest entry. Comments from Twitter users included: “It has to be my fav so far,” “This was FANTASTIC!!!”, and “Great movie night! Thank you!”.
One fan said: “What an amazing ending to the movie and what a great movie it was!! Great job @hallmarkmovie team and cast!”, while another called it “the best one yet!!” Another said: “I think this is by far my favourite Aurora ever written. Hands down. The best yet.”
Meanwhile, one Twitter user said: “When 2 hours isn’t enough… and still nervous to move from our chairs… @hallmarkmovie we don’t want to wait this long for a new one.” Another comment said: “I’m loving this instalment so much. They’re pulling out all the stops for this one. Loving it.”

But it wasn’t just fans who were on Twitter last night – so too were cast members, including lead star, Candace Cameron Bure. Commenting on the ‘haunted’ tone of the new movie, she said: “This was different than the other Aurora movies, right? A little spooky? What do you think? That music…”
In another Tweet, Bure said: “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries are feeling like Scooby Doo in the BEST way possible! Agree?”
Many did agree with Bure’s comment, with one saying: “Agreed! Do that more often. They spookiness made it exciting. Maybe make a Halloween themed #AuroraTeagarden for October.”

Of course, while many of the comments praised the movie, a couple of fans did make note of a particular sticking point that caught their attention – namely a bit of facial hair from actor Niall Matter. Addressing the subject one fan said: “This was a very good one, good to see all the cast but please have Roe’s husband cut that beard.”
While the beard may not have gone down too well with some fans, there was a practical reason behind its inclusion. Actor Niall Matter had suffered an injury to his face in a DIY-related mishap prior to filming, so he grew a beard to help disguise any signs of injury while his face healed.
Addressing the beard on Twitter, Bure said: “Did we already talk about @niallmatter’s beard? I talk about it on my Instagram stories. FYI – I LOVED it. But I’m a facial hair kinda gal.”

Moving away from ‘beard-gate’, other fans were happy to see Lexa Doig back in the movie, following her absence in the previous instalment, Honeymoon, Honeymurder (2021).
One fan said: “@LexaDoig so glad your back in the series. I missed you on the honeymoon storyline.” Doig replied: I’m really happy to be back. I was bummed to miss the honeymoon.”

The overall reaction to Haunted by Murder from Twitter users was very positive, and created a real buzz around the movie as it aired, demonstrating an appetite for more. While there has been no news (yet) on whether another Aurora Teagarden Mysteries movie is in the pipeline, it is clear that fans would love the series to continue.
Since launching in 2015 with A Bone to Pick, the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries movies have been incredibly popular and the series has built up a loyal fanbase. It’s unlikely this movie will mark the end of this successful series, so it’s now just a waiting game to see what comes next.

But while we wait, if you missed last night’s debut of Haunted by Murder, and want to know what it was all about, here is the official plot description of the movie: “When Aurora Teagarden and her best friend, Sally Allison, were teenagers, they entered the infamous “haunted” Crenshaw Mansion on a dare. To their shock, they came upon a dead body in a secret room!
“It’s now 20 years later and Aurora’s mother, Aida, has bought the Crenshaw Mansion with plans to renovate and sell, dismissing the notion that the house is haunted. But the more time they spend in the mansion, the more convinced Aurora is that the body they found long ago was not the result of an accident.
“Someone – or something – really doesn’t want Aurora, Nick and their friends in the Real Murders Club digging into the past because there are a lot more secrets to be found in the Crenshaw Mansion… secrets worth protecting at all costs!”
