In 1989, low-budget horror movie, Puppet Master, was released direct-to-video. The film – directed by David Schmoeller – featured a collection of deadly puppets, and struck a chord with horror fans.

Although the film was produced on a meagre budget, Puppet Master became a cult favourite amongst the horror scene. In turn, the film quickly spawned a series of follow-ups, taking the franchise into new places.

As the Puppet Master franchise developed, it expanded to include a mix of sequels, spin-offs, a crossover, and a reboot. Over time, the timeline of the series has become a little confusing, but since its inception the Puppet Master films have remained one of the most enduring horror franchises of all-time.

Although the above list is arguably the most straight-forward way to view the Puppet Master movies, you may wish to follow the series in chronological order. As the series has progressed, various new entries have jumped around the timeline, to tell stories set before and after the events of the original movie, leading to a somewhat confusing collection of films.

So, which is the best order to watch the movies?

Honestly? It is entirely up to you which order to watch the movies in.

If you wish to watch the films as they were originally released, irrespective of the timeline, then follow the production order. However, should you want to follow the story in a (loose) chronology, saving the crossover and reboot until last, then follow the chronological order.
