Following a four-year break, this weekend sees the return of Hallmark’s ever-popular Murder She Baked movie series. The film series returns with a new entry – Sweet Revenge – will make its US debut on Sunday August 8th, playing at 9/8c on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
Only thing is, when Sweet Revenge airs, it will no longer be under the banner heading of Murder, She Baked. This collection of films is now going under a new title: ‘A Hannah Swensen Mystery’.
Does this mean this is a whole new direction for the series, with a completely different cast? No – it is simply a name change. The Murder, She Baked series is now called A Hannah Swensen Mystery.

Hallmark has taken the decision to rebrand the Murder, She Baked/Hannah Swensen movies, to freshen up the series for its big return. However, fans should still expect to see the same mix of mystery and drama, with Alison Sweeney and Cameron Mathison reprising their roles as Hannah Swensen and Mike Kingston respectively.
Speaking about the name change, via a promo video for the new movie, lead star Alison Sweeney, said: “Hannah Swenson is back. Same characters, and delicious mysteries you love, with a new name.”
Cameron Mathison added:
“The audience is just going to love that we are back at it, but they’re not gonna expect what an incredible movie this is. They are going to have no idea who the murderer is, they are going to try and keep guessing, but there are so many curveballs and so many twists in the story.”

When Sweet Revenge airs, it will be the sixth entry in the Hannah Swenson movie series, following on from A Chocolate Chip Cookie Mystery, A Plum Pudding Mystery, A Peach Cobbler Mystery, and Just Desserts. The lead actors are happy to be back, and Sweeney in particular is happy to be baking again!
“I love this character so much; I enjoy those baking scenes – I’m so excited to be back.”
No word just yet on whether Sweet Revenge is the first entry in a new run of Hannah Swensen movies, but the name change suggests it is highly likely that more movies are on the way.

Was very disappointed in the new murder she baked episode. It has completely lost the home time feel. It is way too much urbanization and too many character changes, too much silliness from Barbara Niven role of Hannah’s mother. There was not much that I liked about this new version of one of my favorite hallmark mysteries.

Not as cozy. No small time feel. Liked the old bakery better in the middle of town. Missing the gossip of the elderly ladies. Too modernized. The entire feel of the movie changed. This was my favorite of all the Hallmark mysteries. I’m disappointed.

I completely agree with Kim.. It’s lost all the “Small Town” charm.. and were did the other sister come from.. She was never mentioned in the original series at all ,,You can’t just introduce another Sister out of the blue… didn’t even look like they were sisters… There was very little romance given they were supposed to be engaged.. Also this was suppose to be 6 mos. later … didn’t feel like that at all ..
I was generally very disappointed with the movie… the mystery was good though.
I too have been a fan of the series … I have the DVD’s …1 thru 5 Liz D.

I totally agree with the previous reviewers. You can tell they had a different writer for the episode. Missing the music from the original series, too. Did they think we wouldn’t notice the name change from Eden Lake to Lake Eden? Lost that cozy, small town feel. Even the camera style is different.

I also miss Andrea, Hannah’s sister. She was an integral part of the chemistry and flow of the series.

Loved the Latest Episode.. It was just as enjoyable
As the past Episodes. While, I do miss Hannah’s original sister…there is another sister and she has managed to fit right in! I didn’t notice the name change of the town. I found the series as comfy cozy as it was!
Great job Hallmark!

Was very disappointed in the new show. Miss Hannah’s sister, Andrea and her husband. It has lost its hometown feel. And I agree that Hannah’s mother is just too silly in this show. I hope the writers will go back the original style of the show. Didn’t like Mike’s new office and lady copy either. I thought the show was boring – it didn’t hold my attention like the others. What is going on with Hallmark??? Not liking the new series of shows. Really did not like the new Mystery 101 at all! Writer totally ruined the entire series with the way the last movie ended. And now they have messed up Hannah Swenson’s movies too!

It took me 4 tries to get through the new Hannah Swenson movie, and I still do not know what really happen. As far as the WOKE and CRT goes maybe that is why you have lost so many actors. Terrible movies. Do not watch much anymore, except Cut, Color, Murder due to Julie Gonzales, and Ryan McFarland being in it. VERY GOOD MOVIE!

While I didn’t care for the new Hannah Swenson movie as much as all previous episodes, I love the characters and hope you will continue with more episodes in this series. I want the opportunity to give it a chance. I’m willing to stick it out while it gains it’s footing. Please keep working on it. Please.

The absence of Andrea left a big hole that a not be filled by another sister. Each is different and brings their own
charm to Eden Lake. NOT Lake Eden. Please change it back. A quaint small time feel is a good portion of what made us all fall in love with Murder She Baked, Ever heard “If its not broke don’t fix it?”

I agree for the most part with the comments based on the major changes in the newer Murder She baked movies. I also agree the ending to the 101 series was not well done. I haven’t heard anything about a new 101, but I truly hope the main stars are not separated. This was originally one of the good series but now I guess we’ll wait and see what happens.

If you read the books, you would know that Michelle is an integral part of the mysteries, more so than Andrea. Also, in the books Delores is a brunette, Hannah is a redhead, Andrea is a blonde, and Michelle is a brunette. Michelle looks like Delores but her personality is similar to Hannah’s. Michelle helps Hannah investigate and she also bakes too. Andrea has a personality that is more similar to Delores. Andrea cannot cook, her only real talent is looking pretty, shopping and getting people to talk and she realizes this and is always looking for Hannah’s approval. Delores is an accomplished author and owns her own business too. And Norman is more an integral part of the books than Mike Kingston, who is a real cad, loves Hannah but chases after every woman in a skirt. In the books, Hannah loves Norman, tells him every chance she gets but is attracted to Mike. And Mike and Norman are both rivals for her affection, and she cannot decide which one she should marry. Norman is leading the pack until another man shows up and Hannah gets swept up and marries him instead. Issue is they are not doing the movies in same order as the books and one of the movies had a different killer from the book. And the romantic angle in movies is different. Hannah was a no nonsense kind of gal in the books, very smart, independent, and would never sit around waiting for a man to realize her worth.

I watched the Sweet Revenge movie, It was not that hard to follow. But I do think that Hannah’s mother was acting too silly. I got that Hannnah didn’t want to rush with the wedding and wanted to enjoy the time of being engaged. But I like how the writers made changes from the books. Where Mike is smart and really loves Hannah. I think they need to keep Norman as her friend and have him to move on with his own girlfriend. It gets a little tiresome with her hovering around like a love sick puppy over Hannah. Hope they make more Hannah Swenson mystery movies soon. With most of the other Mystery movies being canceled and still waiting to see if another Mystery 101movie is going to be made after the cliff hanger of the last movie. If not then I’ll just drop my Hallmark channel subscription all to gether.
