The release of A Quiet Place 2 has been a long time coming. The movie was shot in 2019, and was set for an early 2020 debut, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has taken until May 2021 for the movie to make it to the big screen.

During this time, many fans have wondered what the new movie is all about. And, based on the trailer, they have also wondered why Lee Abbott – the father figure in A Quiet Place – is in the sequel.

Lee was the head of the family in the first movie, but his character was killed off by an alien creature towards the end of the picture. So, it has surprised quite a number of people to discover he plays a role in this latest instalment.

So, what gives? Is the dad in A Quiet Place Part 2 or not? And if so, what is he doing in the movie?

John Krasinski, the actor who played Lee Abbott (aka the dad) in A Quiet Place does appear in A Quiet Place Part 2. The actor reprises the role of Lee for the opening sequence of the movie, with the scene acting as a flashback to events which take place before A Quiet Place.

This prologue sequence revolves around the day the alien creatures arrived on Earth. In the scene, Lee and his family are at a ball game in their home town, when the creatures invade and start killing local citizens.

This is the only sequence in the movie which features Lee, as the remainder of the movie is set directly after the events of A Quiet Place. Lee therefore remains dead throughout the rest of the movie – his death in the previous film is not undone – although various characters continue to make reference to Lee as the story plays out.

In addition to playing the role of Lee in A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place 2, John Krasinski directed both movies. He is also married to actress, Emily Blunt, who plays Lee’s wife, Evelyn Abbott.
