During the course of its 25-episode run, SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron worked it’s way through a portfolio of creepy bad guys. Heck, some of these vile villains could have given Batman’s rogues’ gallery a run for its money.
From Dr. Viper to Dark Kat, the SWAT Kats sure had their work cut out for them, despatching evildoers all over Megakat City. But who were the worst… er… best villains of the show?
In this post, I am taking a look at the creepiest criminals to face the SWAT Kats. These are the biggest and weirdest threats to appear on the show.
—
Madkat

Let’s begin with Madkat – one of the craziest villains in SWAT Kats history. How crazy? He’s insane.
Madkat is a shapeshifting jester who believes he should be the No.1 prime time TV host in Megakat City. But rather than work on his craft, or accept this isn’t the life for him, he opts to use his body-altering abilities to exact revenge on those who ruined his career.

The Metallikats

Mac and Molly Mange were two mob bosses, sent to prison to pay for their many, many crimes. Not keen on making amends for their past transgressions, the pair escape incarceration but lose their lives in the process.
But death proves to be no obstacle for the Manges and they are soon revived and given new metallic bodies… again, and again, and again. Calling themselves the Metallikats, the pair are proof that cats really do have nine lives.

The Red Lynx

The Red Lynx is a blast from the past – quite literally. He is the ghost of a MegaWar II pilot, who refuses to rest until he has revenge against any descendents of his enemy, the Blue Manx.
If you don’t believe this guy is creepy, take another look at the picture. Take a long hard look and remember he’s already dead, so not much can stop him.
—
Rex Shard

Before he was transformed into a supervillain, Rex Shard was an opportunist criminal. But after his transformation – the result of an experimental device gone wrong – Shard gained the ability to turn anyone and anything into crystals.
What makes Shard such a scary villain is his lack of compassion. So good luck to anyone who gets in his way, as he has no qualms about crystallising you!

Dr. Viper

Dr. Viper is the epitome of a mad scientist. Nothing (and I mean NOTHING) matters, except his experiments and achieving his goals.
Viper causes many headaches for the SWAT Kats, and no matter how hard they try, they can’t seem to stop him from causing them more problems.
—
‘Zed’

‘Zed’ is a very, very, very creepy villain. In short: ‘Zed’ is a self-aware computer system which assimilates its creator, Dr. Greenbox, as well as the Metallikats.
The more ‘Zed’ assimilates, the stronger it becomes.
__
The Ancient Warriors

The Ancient Warriors are towering, zombie-like behemoths which protect the ruins of Katchu Picchu. These ‘mecha’ mummies have one goal: Safeguard their master, Katchu Picchu – no matter how much destruction they cause in the process.
Oh, if you think the Warriors look freaky, then check out Katchu Picchu.

The Pastmaster

What do you do, if you’re a creepy little cat with the ability to alter time? You continue being a creepy little cat, you alter time AND you call yourself the Pastmaster of course!
The Pastmaster has crossed paths with the SWAT Kats multiple times, and on every occasion it has turned the Kats‘ world upside down. Will there ever be an end to the Pastmaster’s tyranny? Probably not.
__
The Dark SWAT Kats

The Dark SWAT Kats are evil doppelgangers of the SWAT Kats. They have no morals, they are best pals with Dark Kat (more about him in a moment) and they cause terror wherever they go.
You want creepy bad guys? Then the Dark SWAT Kats are for you.
There’s nothing creepier than someone walking around, looking like you, but acting bad. Very, very bad.
__
Dark Kat

And finally, the mysterious and deadly Dark Kat is truly a nightmarish villain. The hulking bad guy commands an army of followers (known as Creeplings) and appears to have no compassion whatsoever.
Plus, check out that hood/trench coat combo. There is definitely something sinister going on under there, you mark my words!
