Directed by Steven Spielberg, Ready Player One is a sci-fi action adventure movie, based on the Ernest Cline book of the same name. The film was released in 2018, surrounded by a great deal of hype.
To promote the movie, Warner Bros. Pictures released a series of posters. The posters spoofed a number of iconic movies, including Risky Business (1983),and Blade Runner (1982) amongst others.
Do you remember them?

Ready Player One posters
In this post I am highlighting five of the posters that were released in 2018. Here is The Blade Runner-inspired poster, which also includes a certain iconic car.

Cool right?
Here is the next poster, do you recognise the movie it spoofed?

This poster took its inspiration from classic vampire movie, The Lost Boys (1987). Simple, but very effective.
Did you guess right?
Next up is a Bullet (1968) inspired poster, with the lead replacing Steve McQueen’s character, Lt. Frank Bullitt.

The Tom Cruise-starring Risky Business (1983) provided the inspiration for the next poster.

And finally, here is a fantastic poster which took its inspiration from The Iron Giant (1999) – a character who also appeared in Ready Player One.

So, what do you think?
I was a big fan of these posters when the movie was released, and I still think they stand up now. Using various pop culture references to promote your film is a good idea – especially when your film is loaded with more pop culture than you can shake a stick at.
