Can’t remember/be bothered to watch Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom? Want to know the main story beats and plot details?
No sweat, Chet – I’ve got your back!
The following post fills you in about the movie, while preparing you for the forthcoming release of Jurassic World: Dominion.
What is the main story of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
The main story of Fallen Kingdom is divided into two separate parts.
- The first focuses on a faux rescue mission to save dinosaurs from a volcanic eruption on Isla Nublar (the location of Jurassic World).
- The second focuses on an auction at the Lockwood Estate, with all of the rescued dinosaurs and the Indoraptor – a new hybrid dinosaur – up for sale.
How much screen time does Jeff Goldblum have in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
Rather disappointingly, Jeff Goldblum has very little screen time in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Reprising the role of Dr. Ian Malcolm, Goldblum appears in a courtroom scene at the beginning of the movie and towards the end, effectively book-ending the story. The actor does not feature anywhere else in the film.
How much of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom takes place on Isla Nublar?
Less than half of the movie takes place on Isla Nublar. Once the volcano erupts, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and the remainder of the movie’s ‘rescue’ team leave the island and watch as it is completely destroyed.
Does Isla Sorna feature in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
No, Isla Sorna (aka Site B) is not featured in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but it is referenced. For those with short memories, Site B is the island featured in The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001).
Do Sam Neill or Laura Dern appear in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
No, Sam Neill and Laura Dern do not appear in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The characters of Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler are not mentioned in the movie either.
Who is Sir Benjamin Lockwood?
Sir Benjamin Lockwood – as played by James Cromwell – is the former business partner of John Hammond. Lockwood and Hammond developed the cloning technology that resulted in Jurassic Park and Lockwood has a small role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
What is Sir Benjamin Lockwood’s secret?
Using the same technology that Hammond used to clone dinosaurs, Lockwood cloned his deceased daughter. The resulting clone is Lockwood’s ‘granddaughter’, Maisie Lockwood who appears throughout Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Who dies in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
The characters that die in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom are all newcomers to the Jurassic series and include: Sir Benjamin Lockwood, Eli Mills, Ken Wheatley and Gunnar Eversoll.
Series regulars, Claire Dearing, Owen Grady, Dr. Ian Malcolm and Dr. Henry Wu, as well as newcomers Franklin Webb, Zia Rodriguez and Maisie Lockwood, all survive the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Will Dr. Wu appear in Jurassic World: Dominion?
As both Dr. Wu and Dr. Wu’s genetic samples survive the events of Fallen Kingdom, the likelihood is both will feature in the third Jurassic World movie.
Is the oft-discussed Mosasaurus/surfer scene really good?
While this is a pretty cool moment with the Mosasaurus, the scene is more or less a blink and you’ll miss it shot towards the end of the movie. It should have been awesome, but it is ultimately a missed opportunity.
Does the Indoraptor survive the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
No. The Indoraptor does not survive the events of the movie. The Indoraptor falls from a roof at the Lockwood Estate and is impaled on a Triceratops skull.
How does Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom end?
At the end of the movie, the last surviving dinosaurs of Jurassic World are set free across America. These dinosaurs include the T-Rex, the Mosasaurus, Pterosaurs, Blue the Velociraptor, and a few other dinosaurs.
As noted by Dr. Ian Malcolm, the whole world is now a place for dinosaurs to live. His line, “welcome, to Jurassic World”, is a way of telling everyone that humans and dinosaurs will now have to coexist.
Is there an end credit scene in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
Yes, there is. The scene takes place at the very end of the movie, following a good five minutes of credits… but nothing much happens.
The scene opens up with a couple of Pterosaurs flying around Las Vegas. The scene lasts a few seconds and offers nothing additional to the story.
And now you know all of the main story beats/plot points about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I hope this post has acted as a refresher for the events of the movie.
