Horror doesn’t have to be just about the scares – more often than not, the scares can be replaced (quite effortlessly) with laughs. The end result becomes the ‘horror comedy’.
Below are my top three picks in the horror comedy genre – which you should dive into as soon as you can! Each of these films is perfect for a movie night and offer laughs and scares aplenty!

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010)

Starring Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a treat of horror comedy. The film follows two best friends who get mistaken for killers, with hilarious results.
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a must-see movie for any horror aficionado or those who have seen one too many hillbilly slasher flicks. The film turns horror stereotypes on their head, in a laugh out loud farce which mixes heaps of gore with a good dose of heart.

The Babysitter (2014)

Charlie’s Angels (2000) director, McG calls the shots in this film – a tale about a 12-year-old tasked with taking down a demonic cult, led by his devilish babysitter.
Over the top, explosive and downright fun, The Babysitter is horror comedy at its blackest and most overblown. The Babysitter is a Netflix film, so it is easy to hunt down and one you MUST seek out.

Zombeavers (2014)

The title alone might put you off – but PLEASE don’t let it, Zombeavers is a surprisingly hilarious comedy from director Jordan Rubin. The story follows a group of college students who are attacked by a group of… er… zombie beavers!
Sure, it sounds daft, and it is, but Zombeavers is one of the funniest and most fun horror comedies of recent years.
