Over the past few years, Warner Bros. Pictures/New Line Cinema has slowly (but surely) been building up The Conjuring Universe – a cinematic universe comprising a collection of supernatural horror films. The series has been a financial success, but how is it faring critically?
In this post I am taking a look at the eight movies that currently make up The Conjuring Universe, to see how well they perform critically on Rotten Tomatoes. The eight films include: The Conjuring (2013), Annabelle (2014), The Conjuring 2 (2016), Annabelle: Creation (2017), The Nun (2018), The Curse of La Llorona (2019), Annabelle Comes Home (2019) and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021).
Do The Conjuring movies all score high? And which is the best?
Let’s find out.
____
The Conjuring movie ratings on Rotten Tomatoes – based on critical opinions

With every movie featured on Rotten Tomatoes, the site offers two ratings. The first is the Tomatometer, which provides a score based on the combined percentage of critical opinions.
Here are the Tomatomter ratings for The Conjuring movies:
- The Conjuring (2013) – 85%
- Annabelle (2014) – 29%
- The Conjuring 2 (2016) – 80%
- Annabelle: Creation (2017) – 70%
- The Nun (2018) – 26%
- The Curse of La Llorona (2019) – 29%
- Annabelle Comes Home (2019) – 64%
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It – 59%
As you can see, out of the eight movies The Conjuring rates the best on the Tomatometer. The Nun rates the lowest.
OK, now let’s take a look at a different set of Rotten Tomato ratings.
____
The Conjuring movie ratings on Rotten Tomatoes – based on the Audience Score

The second set of ratings on Rotten Tomatoes are the Audience Scores. These scores are rated by audience members, and can often differ from the critical ratings – but will they this time?
Here are the Audience Scores for The Conjuring movies:
- The Conjuring (2013) – 83%
- Annabelle (2014) – 36%
- The Conjuring 2 (2016) – 81%
- Annabelle: Creation (2017) – 67%
- The Nun (2018) – 35%
- The Curse of La Llorona (2019) – 40%
- Annabelle Comes Home (2019) – 70%
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) – 83%
As you can see from the list, the audience response to The Conjuring series is not too dissimilar from the response of critics.
There are some (slight) variations, but once again The Conjuring rates the highest with audience members, alongside The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The Nun rates the lowest.
____
