To date, there are seven films in The Conjuring Universe. The eighth entry – The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It – hits cinema screens in 2020.
Are you up to date with the movies? No?
Do you know what order to watch the movies in? No?
Oh, jeez.
OK, here is a quick rundown of the viewing orders for The Conjuring Universe. I’ll keep things simple, so follow one of the two viewing orders below to get up to date with the films.
___
Viewing Order One – The Conjuring timeline order

As with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the films in The Conjuring Universe are released in a non-linear order. As such, if you want to watch the films chronologically then you need to watch them in a different order to how they were released.
The timeline viewing order is:
- The Nun (2018)
- Annabelle: Creation (2017)
- Annabelle (2014)
- The Conjuring (2013)
- Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
- The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
- The Conjuring 2 (2016)
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2020)
You should also know that in 2017, Warner Bros. Pictures launched a competition to promote Annabelle: Creation. The competition resulted in a collection of short films that ‘could exist’ in The Conjuring Universe.
Winners were selected from the United States, the UK, Mexico, Sweden and Colombia. The shorts included: The Nurse (2017), The Confession (2017), What’s Wrong with Mom? (2017), Blund’s Lullaby (2017) and Innocent Souls (2017).
So, if you want to watch the movies AND the shorts in timeline order then use this list:
- The Nun (2018)
- Annabelle: Creation (2017)
- Annabelle (2014)
- The Conjuring (2013)
- Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
- The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
- The Conjuring 2 (2016)
- The Nurse (2017)
- The Confession (2017)
- What’s Wrong with Mom? (2017)
- Blund’s Lullaby (2017)
- Innocent Souls (2017)
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2020)
Watching in this viewing order gives you a chronological timeline, with The Nun at the very start of the timeline and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It at the end of the timeline.
Alternatively, you could go with this viewing order…
___
Viewing Order Two – Production order

If you choose to watch the films in this order then you will be watching the movies (and shorts) in the order they were originally released. This order jumps back and forth across the timeline, but the story still makes perfect sense.
- The Conjuring (2013)
- Annabelle (2014)
- The Conjuring 2 (2016)
- Annabelle: Creation (2017)
- The Nurse (2017)
- The Confession (2017)
- What’s Wrong with Mom? (2017)
- Blund’s Lullaby (2017)
- Innocent Souls (2017)
- The Nun (2018)
- The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
- Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2020)
So, what is the best order to watch The Conjuring movies?
Personally, I’d watch them in production order, but ultimately the choice is yours!
You might like to know that the majority of The Conjuring movies are available to rent or buy on Blu-ray/DVD. But if it’s just the two main Conjuring films you’re after – i.e. the films which feature the Warrens – then Amazon have a The Conjuring 2 film collection available.
To the best of my knowledge, Warner Bros. is yet to release a collection of all the films within The Conjuring Universe. Although, I expect this will happen at some point down the line.
As I’m sure you’re aware, Disney has released boxsets of its Marvel Cinematic Universe films, so I’d be very surprised if Warner Bros didn’t follow suit on The Conjuring movies. However, for now the films are available individually.
Until next time, happy haunting.

Anabelle comes home has to be before Conjuring 1 since that’s when they bring the doll to the Warren’s and in Conjuring 1, the witch is holding the doll at the Warrens house.

The timeline gets a little confusing, and it’s not helped by some of the films including events which take place in different time periods, but…
The opening of The Conjuring (all the bits with the nurses) takes place in 1968. However, the main events of the film take place in 1971 – three years after the Warren’s have Annabelle in their possession.
The opening of Annabelle Comes Home also takes place in 1968, but the main events of the film take place in 1972 – a year after the events of The Conjuring.
