To date, there are six films in The Conjuring Universe. The seventh entry – Annabelle Comes Home – hits cinema screens in June.

Are you up to date with the movies?

No?

Do you know what order to watch the movies in?

No?

Oh, jeez.

OK, ahead of the release of Annabelle Comes Home, I am presenting a quick rundown of the viewing orders for The Conjuring Universe. I’ll keep things simple, so follow one of the two viewing orders below to get up to date with the films.

Viewing Order One – The Conjuring timeline

As with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the films in The Conjuring Universe are released in a non-linear order. As such, if you want to watch the films chronologically then you need to watch them in a different order to how they were released.

The viewing order is:

  • The Nun (2018)
  • Annabelle: Creation (2017)
  • Annabelle (2014)
  • The Conjuring (2013)
  • The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
  • The Conjuring 2 (2016)

Watching in this viewing order gives you a chronological timeline, with The Nun at the very start of the timeline (1952) and The Conjuring 2 at the end of the timeline (1977).

If you choose this viewing order you will work your way through the timeline as follows:

1952 – The Nun

1955 – Annabelle: Creation

1967 – Annabelle

1971 – The Conjuring

1973 – The Curse of La Llorona

1977 – The Conjuring 2

Alternatively, you could go with this viewing order…

If you choose to watch the films in this order then you will be watching the movies as they were originally released. This order jumps back and forth across the timeline, but the story still makes perfect sense.

  • The Conjuring (2013)
  • Annabelle (2014)
  • The Conjuring 2 (2016)
  • Annabelle: Creation (2017)
  • The Nun (2018)
  • The Curse of La Llorona (2019)

If you watch the films in this order, you will begin with an introduction to Ed and Lorraine Warren – the lead characters of this universe. You’ll conclude the run of films with a standalone tale that does not feature the Warrens.

So, what is the best order to watch The Conjuring movies?

Personally, I’d watch them in production order, but ultimately the choice is yours!

You might like to know that the majority of The Conjuring movies are available to rent or buy on Blu-ray/DVD. But if it’s just the two main Conjuring films you’re after – i.e. the films which feature the Warrens – then Amazon have a The Conjuring 2 film collection available.

To the best of my knowledge, Warner Bros. is yet to release a collection of all the films within The Conjuring Universe. Although, I expect this will happen at some point down the line.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Disney has released boxsets of its Marvel Cinematic Universe films, so I’d be very surprised if Warner Bros didn’t follow suit on The Conjuring movies. However, for now the films are available individually.

Until next time, happy haunting.
