Well this is interesting – especially in light of the Morbius/MCU discussion this week. It looks like Marvel Studios is keen to connect the MCU to Fox’s X-Men movie series.
This news comes via Digital Spy, who are reporting that Patrick Stewart has been approached to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – as Professor Charles Xavier!
During an interview, Stewart said: “I met with (Marvel Studios’ head) Kevin Feige a couple of months ago and we had long, long conversations.”
He added: “And there have been moves and suggestions, which include Charles Xavier.”
I told you this news was interesting.
And of course, if Stewart were to return as Xavier, then this would mean every X-Men movie from 2000’s X-Men, through to 2019’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix would be linked to the MCU, most likely via some multiverse fiddling.
Great news, right?
Well, it would be, if Stewart had said yes. But for now, it looks like he’s not on board.
During the same interview with Digital Spy, Stewart explained that he has already said goodbye to his character, via 2017’s Logan, so he’s not necessarily keen to revisit the role.
Speaking about the first time he and Hugh Jackman saw Logan in public, he said:
“Hugh took my hand, and we held hands with the last seven or eight minutes of the film because there was so many things we were upset about.”
“We were moved by the story. We were moved by one another. We were moved by the movie. But we also both made the decision that we were saying goodbye to our characters as well.
“In that sense, it was not just the deaths of those two men in the franchise, but it was also goodbye to our part in them as well.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Stewart will remain firm on his decision not to reprise the role of Xavier, but the fact his discussion with Kevin Feige is now public makes it seem unlikely. And it sounds like Hugh Jackman won’t reprise the role of Wolverine either.
However, there is something positive to take from this news – Marvel Studios seems keen on revisiting past Marvel movies produced by Fox. This means other stars from the X-Men series could return.
*All eyes turn to Ian McKellen*
Heck, his could also mean Fantastic Four‘s Michael Chiklis could get asked to appear in the MCU!
I hope so!
Hey, does anyone have Halle Berry’s number on their speed dial?
- What is X-Men: Fear the Beast?
- The Fantastic Four were originally in Deadpool 2
