It’s possible you’ve seen the name Lashana Lynch circulating around the internet today, probably as a hashtag or via a Facebook comment/status/discussion. It’s also possible you’ve seen Lynch’s name in connection to James Bond.

But why?

Well, various media outlets (including The Guardian) are reporting that Lashana Lynch has been cast as the next 007 in the as-yet-untitled 25th official Bond movie. The story – which originated in the Daily Mail – suggests that Lynch will be taking on the title previously held by actor, Daniel Craig.

Now it’s at this point that I feel I should clear up a little confusion. If the story is correct and Lynch is indeed playing 007 this does not mean she is playing the role of James Bond.

007 is Bond’s code name (he is a ’00’ agent). So, the actress is (potentially) taking on the code name, not the role of James Bond.

Got it?

The 25th official James Bond movie is currently in production and is scheduled to hit cinema screens in April 2020. Daniel Craig is reprising the role of James Bond (reportedly for the final time) and joins a cast that includes Rami Malek,Chris Waltz and of course, Lashana Lynch.

So, is the story about Lynch true?

Well, there’s been no official confirmation just yet, so I guess we will find out in the fullness of time. More importantly, who is Lashana Lynch?

Lashana Lynch is a British actress who has appeared in a number of British television shows, including Death in Paradise and Silent Witness. She even appeared in an episode of The Bill – a right of passage for many British actors.

To date, Lynch’s most prominent role is that of Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. The actress appeared opposite Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson in the Marvel Studios movie, and if you’ve watched Captain Marvel you’ll instantly recognise her.

And now you know.
