We’re less than a week away from the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home – the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and things are starting to get a little bit exciting. The review embargo lifted a short while ago and the good news is the film is receiving strong write-ups!

Empire has awarded the movie four stars out of five, IGN have given it a score of 8.8 out of 10 and the current Rotten Tomatoes ranking is 93%. This is all pretty positive stuff for what is to be the closing chapter in Marvel’s 23-film Infinity Saga.

The signs are all there that this will be a big hit for Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures, but how big?

In my mind, pretty big indeed.

To date, the most financially successful Spider-Man movie is Spider-Man 3 (2007) which has a box office take of $890,871,626. This is followed closely by Spider-Man: Homecoming which took a total of $880,166,924 in 2017.

Both of these Spidey movies came close to cracking the $900 million mark, but didn’t quite reach it. I’d be surprised if Far From Home doesn’t surpass $900 million (and maybe more).

Marvel Studios has released two movies so far in 2019: Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. Both of these surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office and in the case of Endgame, more than $2.7 billion.

The Cap/Endgame combo was a very successful pairing for Marvel and there’s no reason why it can’t now become a hat trick for Far From Home. The interest in Marvel movies hasn’t died down and if the reviews are anything to go by, this is going to be a fun outing for the wall-crawler.

Let’s not forget that Endgame is also getting a re-release this weekend, which will put it back into cinemas for the next few days leading up to the release of Far From Home. What better way to open a new Spidey movie than with the previous chapter keeping the hype train going?

There’s also the important factor of this being the closing chapter to an eleven year journey AND the first film to exist in the post-Endgame world. It’s fair to expect that most people who went to the cinema to watch Endgame will now want to see what comes next and that’s where Far From Home can pull the ace out of its sleeve.

The trailers have made it clear this film will look at where the Tony Stark/Peter Parker relationship goes next, while also introducing new ideas too. If the movie’s chief villain, Mysterio is to be believed, this will be the introduction of the Marvel multi-verse and who doesn’t want to see that?

For my money, this will be a big Spider-Man movie and in terms of box office returns I do expect it to top all of the Spidey films that have come before. I’m hyped and I can’t wait to see where the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes next for Spider-Man and beyond.
