Endgame has been in cinemas for approximately a week and while it’s still the talk of the town, now is as good a time as any to talk about what’s next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I’ve got a few thoughts – predictions if you will – regarding what I feel could happen next.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

The 23rd entry in the MCU hits cinema screens in July, capping off the Infinity Saga storyline that runs all the way back to Iron Man (2008). From the trailers it would appear as if this next entry – Spider-Man: Far From Home – is just a fun, stand alone Spidey tale, not really connected to the wider MCU – but what if it isn’t?

To date, every time Spider-Man has appeared in the MCU one person has been a constant – Tony Stark. I have a feeling that Tony’s story isn’t over just yet.

I believe that Tony’s death is going to have a significant influence on Peter’s journey and this will play out in Far From Home.

Up until now, Tony has acted as a mentor and an enabler – giving Spider-Man advice as well as some high-tech suits. With Tony now gone, I believe that Spidey will start to move away from the techno-suits and will instead adopt more traditional attire (beginning with a low tech black stealth suit).

Without Tony around, I also believe Peter will subconsciously be looking for a new mentor. This will lead him to the path of Quentin beck (aka Mysterio) who will manipulate Spider-Man.

The movie will be about Peter learning to stand on his own without the need for Tony or any of the Avengers. This will allow for more solo adventures further down the line, as well as a potential break away from the MCU in the future.

Always remember, Spider-Man is on loan from Sony. The Marvel/Sony deal may not last much longer, so at some point in the future he is going to go his own way.

What If?

An animated TV series based around Marvel’s What If? comics is in the pipeline. What If? tells alternate reality tales based on established Marvel stories such as What if Silver Surfer possessed the Infinity Gauntlet?

What If? won’t just be a standalone animated series – it’ll be connected to the MCU. I believe this series is the result of the time travel storyline from Endgame.

The Avengers messed with time, creating multiple variations in the timeline. I think What If? will show these timelines.

Speaking of time travel, surely all this time meddling has to have huge ramifications, right?

Although the Infinity Saga wraps up later this year with Spider-Man: Far From Home, I do think it will spill into the next run of Marvel Studios movies. This ‘spill’ will come with the introduction of the time travelling villain, Kang.

Not only is Kang a long time Avengers villain, but he also has links to Reed Richards, Doctor Doom and Apocalypse – characters appearing in Fantastic Four and X-Men comics.

Now why would that be significant? Oh yeah… because Disney recently regained the movie rights to Fantastic Four and X-Men.

Disney is reportedly working on various live-action Marvel TV series, including one based on the Scarlet Witch and Vision. Thing is, Vision is currently deceased in the MCU, isn’t he?

Vision will remain deceased BUT he will star in the new series.

As a figment of Scarlet Witch’s imagination.

Comic book fans will be aware that Scarlet Witch has suffered with mental health problems in the past. I have a feeling this storyline – or a version of it – will play out in the TV series and will be due to the events of Infinity War AND Avengers: Age of Ultron.

As depicted in these films, Scarlet Witch has lost both her brother and her lover – that’s not something you just get over. I believe that the forthcoming series will pick up these story threads in a tale where Scarlet Witch creates a new reality with Vision seemingly alive.

This reality won’t end well.

Of course, I could be waaaaay off, but what do you think? Let me know your predictions for the future of the MCU.
