**THE FOLLOWING POST INCLUDES A SPOILER FOR CAPTAIN MARVEL. IF YOU’VE NOT WATCHED CAPTAIN MARVEL YET, THEN STOP READING.**

If you’ve watched Captain Marvel then you will know that Nick Fury’s interaction with Carol Danvers becomes the inspiration for the Avengers Initiative. You’ll also be aware that this interaction takes place around 1995/1996 – roughly 12 years before Fury approaches Tony Stark about joining his new super team (aka the Avengers).

12 years is a considerable amount of time between conceiving a super group and kick-starting the Avengers. So, what happened in that time period?

Perhaps nothing.

But what if Fury created a team of Avengers that we’ve never seen. What if this team became a test-run for the Avengers… and they failed in their mission?

If you’re a comic book fan you’ll probably be aware of an X-Men comic called Deadly Genesis. In this story, Professor Xavier recruited a team of X-Men who died during their initial mission.

Xavier kept this team a secret.

I’d really like this concept played out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, only with the X-Men and Xavier switched out for the Avengers and Fury. This storyline could take place between the events of Captain Marvel and Iron Man.

Of course, it’ll never happen. In order for this to become a movie, Marvel Studios would need to introduce a super hero team that would need to be killed off.

Yep, never gonna happen.

But what if it did?
