Yesterday morning, Blackpool Police posted a photo on Facebook of a man wanted in connection to a theft at a local restaurant back in September. The post was accompanied by a caption asking “do you recognise this man?”, with contact details for anyone able to help.

To date, that post has had more than 100,000 comments and 30,000 reactions.

The reason?

The image bears a striking resemblance to a certain TV character…

Blackpool Police

Of course, this isn’t Ross Gellar – the fictional character from TV series, Friends – nor is it actor David Schwimmer, however, that hasn’t stopped many, many, MANY people suggesting it is.

One Facebook user commented: “Please approach with caution. He is known to have studied karate and we believe he has mastered the art of Unagi, the state of total awareness.”

Another commented: “It’s not Ross… it’s Russ. He’s trying to frame Ross to win back Rachel.”

Making reference to an episode where Rachel once wrote Ross a letter (after they broke up), one Facebook user said: “There’ll be a fair amount of paperwork regarding this – maybe 18 pages, front & back!”

Due to the sheer amount of comments, Blackpool Police had to address the similarity between the two. However, showing they too have a sense of humour they couldn’t help but make a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Friends theme tune in their update.

Taking to Facebook, Blackpool Police, said:

“Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.”
