The Nun has experienced a fantastic opening weekend, taking a whopping $131 million worldwide.
The film – the fifth entry in The Conjuring Universe – managed to pack out cinemas this weekend, despite a less than impressive critical response. According to Box Office Mojo, The Nun took $53,500,000 at the North American box office, with the remaining 77,500,000 coming from overseas.
The Nun‘s success this past weekend just goes to show what a good marketing campaign can achieve. It also demonstrates that horror continues to be very hot right now!
Personally, I wasn’t a fan of The Nun, finding it pretty pedestrian at best, but this is of course great news for New Line Cinema, who have been slowly building up The Conjuring Universe with very little fanfare.
A sequel to The Nun is surely on the cards now, right?
