Over the past few months there has been a fair bit of talk about whether or not Ewan McGregor will return to the Star Wars series as a young Obi-Wan Kenobi. The actor played the role in three Star Wars movies, between 1999 and 2005, taking over the role from original Obi-Wan actor, Alec Guinness.

So, will he? Won’t he? Is there an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie in the works? Isn’t there?

Questions, questions, questions.

To get to the bottom of this there are two main questions that need to be answered here and it appears that McGregor has just answered them both. Appearing on a recent edition of The View, McGregor was asked about the role and whether he will return.

Here’s what he said…

First up, would McGregor be up for a return?

He said: “I would totally do it, of course.”

Yay! That’s the hard part out of the way.

Next up, is he set to return?

McGregor said: “There’s no plans as such, as far as I know. It’s so funny, I’ve been asked this question for years and years and I would be happy to do it. I think there must be a good story to tell, as they’re doing spin-offs, there’s likely to be a good Obi-Wan (story) between me and Alec Guinness and that time.”

He added: “I’ve answered yes so many times it looks like I’m sort of touting for work at Disney’s door.”

So, yes McGregor would return to the role, but at present he’s simply not being asked. The ball is very much in Disney’s court.
