Over the past few days, there has been a lot of chatter about the role of James Bond and whether or not British actor, Idris Elba will be taking on the part in a future instalment.
The rumours have stemmed from a few different places, including a couple of contradictory comments from ‘insiders’ which suggest a non-white actor could take on the role of James Bond, once Daniel Craig departs the series. As a non-white actor who has been linked to the part previously, Idris Elba’s name has automatically been thrown into the ring,
So, is there any truth in the story?
Well, during the early hours of Sunday morning, Elba fuelled the rumours of his Bond casting via Twitter, with a tweet which read: “My name’s Elba, Idris Elba” – a nod to the famous line James Bond uses in the film series.
Elba’s tweet playfully suggested that maybe there was some truth to the rumours. Well, that was until the actor followed his tweet up with another message for fans.
The follow-up tweet read: “Don’t believe the HYPE…”
So, is Elba set to play the world’s most famous fictional spy?
At least not now anyway.
If Elba is to take on the role, there’s been no official confirmation and it’s unlikely there will be for some time yet. Daniel Craig is set to reprise the role one final time before he hangs up his license to kill and until that happens, don’t expect to hear news of his replacement – it’s just not the
British polite thing to do.
