The cast for Star Wars Episode IX has been revealed – and both Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher WILL return!

Using previously unreleased footage, shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Fisher will reprise the role of Leia Organa. In a statement, via Star Wars.com, Episode IX’s director, J. J. Abrams, said:

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honour Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Mark Hamill will also be returning for this next chapter in the Star Wars saga (presumably as a Force ghost), alongside Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. Composer John Williams, will scoring the movie.

Filming on Star Wars: Episode IX will begin filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1, 2018. The movie hits cinema screens December 2019.
