Sad news this morning.
Steve Ditko has passed away. The comic book artist and creator died on June 29th at the age of 90.
Ditko – a legend within the comic book industry – was the co-creator of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, amongst other iconic characters. Throughout his career he produced artwork for both Marvel and DC, as well as Charlton and a number of independent publishers.
A number of peers have taken to Twitter to pay their respects.
Neil Gaiman tweeted: “Steve Ditko was true to his own ideals. He saw things his own way, and he gave us ways of seeing that were unique. Often copied. Never equalled. I know I’m a different person because he was in the world.”
Walter Simonson tweeted: “Steve Ditko has caught the last web out across the city into the mystic. An early influence on my work, I met Steve exactly once many years ago for a few moments in the Marvel offices. Getting to shake his hand was a privilege. Thanks for all the lovely work, Steve. Godspeed.”
