**WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS A DISCUSSION ON CATWOMAN ISSUE #1. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS ISSUE, OR BATMAN ISSUE #50, AND YOU WANT TO REMAIN SPOILER FREE THEN DO NOT CONTINUE READING. OK? GREAT!**

Earlier today I discussed my thoughts about Batman issue #50, aka the Batman/Catwoman wedding issue. I was a fan of the book and felt that the choice to have Batman and Catwoman NOT get married was the right one.

Having now read Catwoman issue #1 – which was also published today – I remain firmly convinced the non-wedding was the best way forward. Why? Because the events of Batman #50 have directly led into the creation of this new Catwoman book which is already off to a great start.

In this brand new run, Catwoman has now distanced herself from Batman, only it’s not all plain sailing. There’s a new villain in town and she seems hellbent on framing Catwoman for the murder of two police officers, by employing a bunch of lookalikes to carry out crimes in Catwoman’s name.

With various woman all running around looking like Catwoman, Selina Kyle adopts a new costume – one not too dissimilar to her Batman Returns costume. This is of course, one of the reasons why I liked this book so much, but it’s not the only one.

Catwoman #1 has a real energy to it – it feels like it is moving at a brisk pace. There’s no plodding, there’s no dull exposition, it’s action packed with great visuals and a storyline that makes me want to read more.

Then there’s Catwoman herself who just shines in this issue. After reading this book I immediately thought, ‘why is there no Catwoman movie?!’ And then I remembered there was a Catwoman movie… and we don’t talk about it.

I’m not the world’s biggest Catwoman fan – nothing against the character, she’s just never really appealed (outside of Batman Returns of course), but this latest comic has captured my interest. I’ll be back for the next issue and hopefully a lot longer.

For me, Catwoman #1 is the perfect companion piece to Batman #50. Batman #50 was about creating a fixed moment in Batman’s history and Catwoman #1 is about creating a new jumping on point.

Did I mention how cool she looks too?

Catwoman issue #1 is on sale now.
