Just over a week ago, Chucky creator, Don Mancini confirmed that Chucky was heading to the small screen via a new Child’s Play TV series. But apparently, the TV series isn’t the only Chucky project in the works…

MGM has a Child’s Play remake on fast-track.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Lars Klevberg will be directing a remake of the original ’80s horror movie, with David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith on board as producers. Tyler Burton Smith is behind the script, which will restart the franchise from the beginning.

No word on who will take on the role of Charles Lee Ray/Chucky – presumably it won’t be Brad Dourif, the actor who has played the role since 1988. There’s also no news on how this new movie could impact the development of the TV series, which was believed to be a continuation of the original seven-movie franchise.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Either way, don’t expect to see any of the characters from later entries in the series. Yes, I mean Tiffany.

The film will start shooting in September.
