Love the Jurassic World films but wish they would contain more legacy characters? Well, there’s a possibility that Jurassic World 3 could contain a Jurassic Park alumni or two.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom writer, Colin Trevorrow was recently interviewed by MTV (alongside director J.A. Bayona), where he was asked about the possibility of including past characters such as Alan Grant. Trevorrow was asked whether or not he thought the audience might feel robbed if legacy characters don’t make an appearance.
In response, Trevorrow said: “I totally agree with that – I would feel robbed too.”
During the same interview Trevorrow noted the reason for including Jeff Goldblum’s character and also highlighted one character who he feels has not been given her spotlight moment – yet.
“We felt like this was (Ian) Malcolm’s return – let him have his moment. I feel that way with everyone, especially with Laura (Dern), in that she never got to have her own movie. That I identified as being something that’s important and I feel like this moment with Goldblum, because he had this very clear set of ethical questions that he was able to pose for everybody, we just wanted to put the spotlight on him.”
So, what does this all mean? Everything? Nothing?
Well, what it suggests is that Trevorrow understands the importance of the legacy characters. He also feels like Laura Dern’s character, Ellie Sattler, has not really had her chance to shine since Jurassic Park.
As Trevorrow is co-writing Jurassic World 3 there is a strong possibility he will try to make use of these characters in order to bring some closure. Of course, things may not pan out that way.
For now, keep those fingers crossed – you never know what might be on the horizon.
After all, life finds a way.
