Would you like to see more Transformers standalone/solo movies after Bumblebee hits cinema screens this year? Well, you might just get your wish.

The future of the Transformers movie universe is currently up in the air, with no one quite sure if Bumblebee is going to be the first entry in a new TF series, or the final chapter in the current run. Either way, if Bumblebee is successful, then it might not be the only solo TF movie heading our way.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Transformers Producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, said that he’d like to produce an Optimus Prime movie. He said: “It would be a very different kind of movie than a Bumblebee movie, but equally interesting and different.”

So, why are we getting a Bumblebee movie, when Prime is perhaps the most iconic Transformer of them all?

di Bonaventura, said:

“We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from the fans that they wanted us to do a deep dive on one or two of the robots, because they wanted to get to know them better.

“Bumblebee was selected because he’s such a loved figure, and he’s also more emotional than Optimus. Those were the two likely characters.”

He added:

“(Prime’s) a stoic leader, and you can count on him. Whereas Bumblebee is the one who is more emotionally volatile. He has a lot of ups and downs. So it seemed like the best character to try for the first time zeroing in on one Autobot.”

Sounds logical. However, should di Bonaventura be looking for ideas for the next TF movie, that don’t focus on just one character, might I offer up two words: Beast Wars.

I’ll just leave this here…
