File this one firmly under ‘rumour’ for now, but news is currently circulating that Get Out (2017) director, Jordan Peele is eyeing up a movie based on Disney’s Gargoyles. I say file this under ‘rumour’ because there seems to be nothing solid on this story and/or it’s all up in the air anyway.
The report originated over at The Ankler which suggests that Peele is interested in making a Gargoyles movie. However, the same report suggests that Disney aren’t quite on the same page about it.
An excerpt from the piece on The Ankler, reads:
“How do you turn down Jordan Peele? Well, you can’t. Who wants to be responsible for that decision? So in the absence of a good reason to say no, but prevented by their Big IP box from saying yes, Disney is slow walking the decision. It’s hoping, it seems, that they’ll run out the clock, he’ll sign other deals elsewhere, and the project will just fade away.”
So, yeah… er… according to this report Peele is up for it, Disney isn’t and nothing’s really happening at present. But it might be.
It’s all a bit confusing really.
Neither Peele or Disney have gone on record to confirm or deny a Gargoyles movie.
Just for the record, if Peele and/or Disney did want to make a Gargoyles movie, I’d definitely buy a ticket!
Gargoyles originally aired from 1994 to 1997 and comprised three seasons and 78 episodes. The series is regarded as one of the best animated shows of the ’90s and boasted a voice cast that included Marina Sirtis, Jonathan Frakes, Ed Asner, Keith David, Jeff Bennett and Frank Welker, amongst others.
