At the end of last year, Marvel cancelled a bunch of comics including X-Men solo book, Iceman. The final issues hit shelves earlier this year.
I was not happy. Iceman had become a firm favourite of mine; the book provided great representation for the LGBTQ community; and in issue #10 I got a letter printed in the comic! Cancelling Iceman sucked.
Well, apparently Marvel agreed and has now had a change of heart. Yep, Iceman is getting a revival!
Taking to Twitter to announce the news, writer Sina Grace – the scribe behind the recent run of Iceman comics – said: “Hey everyone, dreams come true! Iceman is coming back!!!!”
Speaking via Marvel.com, Grace said: “I’m amazed that the series connected with an audience so much that we defied odds and got another arc. The whole process of writing the first one, I was focused on doing my best work and crafting a series that sat well as a standalone…I had blinders on. Apathy is such a huge force in this world, so when the letters kept coming after the final issue—in my DMs, on Tumblr, to the Marvel offices, at comic conventions—that was when I had to ask, “Is this the impact other Super Hero books have on their readers?”
I’ll answer that one for him. No – no it’s not.
Iceman was a great comic with a character that really connected with readers. I’m so pleased the book is coming back, especially with Sina Grace back on board.
Grace will team up with artist Nathan Stockman for this new run. The first issue hits shelves on September 12th.
And should you want to know more, check out Sina Grace’s interview on Marvel.com where you can find out a few details of what to expect when Iceman returns.
I’m so excited.
