I love the X-Men movies. I’m all for Channing Tatum taking on the role of Gambit in a future X-Men movie (no, seriously)… but come on, it’s not going to happen, is it?
Sorry, I didn’t mean to rant before I’ve even got to the story, I just needed to get this off my chest. Here’s the story.
X-Men producer, Simon Kinberg remains confident that the oft-rumoured Gambit movie will happen. In fact, he believes it will begin shooting this summer.
Speaking at the Deadpool 2 premier party (via Variety), Kinberg, said: “We have a script that we love — that Channing loves.” He added: “We’ve met with a bunch of directors in the last couple of weeks, and we’re hoping to actually pick one in the next couple of weeks and shoot the movie maybe the end of this summer.”
It’s not that I don’t want to believe him, it’s just… well… Kinberg’s a producer and producers say this type of thing all the time as they are trying to sell people on their movies. Plus there’s the impending Disney takeover which will affect all Marvel projects, specifically the X-Men-related ones.
Oh and then there’s that one other thing which could be a problem – GAMBIT HAS HAD A TERRIBLE DEVELOPMENT! Various directors have quit the project so far, with the most recent director to walk being Gore Verbinski.
I kind of feel that at this stage we should all just forget it. I have no issues with Fox’s X-Men movies (I appreciate some people do), but at this point in their life cycle time is almost up.
If Fox & Kinberg are really keen on getting another X-Men movie off the ground before Disney takes over, then they need to get Deadpool 3 into production asap. Or chuck a boatload of money at Hugh Jackman and beg him for one more turn as Wolverine.
The clock is ticking, people!
