**THIS POST HAS BEEN UPDATED SINCE IT WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED. UPDATE IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST.**
The next Star Wars movie is looking likely to be a Lando movie…
…or at least, Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy has suggested as such.
Speaking to Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival (via Newsarama), Kennedy said:
“We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian.” She added: “Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca but Lando will be next.”
Donald Glover is playing Lando Calrissian in the soon-to-be-released Star Wars movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film will detail the early adventures of Han Solo, Chewbacca and of course, Lando.
Lucasfilm has yet to make things official, so although these words came from the President herself, it’s still probably best to wait for official confirmation.
It’s worth noting that Solo actor, Alden Ehrenreich has previously suggested he’s signed up for three Star Wars movies, so although the next entry could be Lando-centric, don’t rule out an appearance from Lando’s ol’ buddy, Han!
Premiere have now retracted the quote from Kathleen Kennedy, explaining there was a miscommunication. Looks like a Lando movie is not the next Star Wars movie.
According to Star Wars News Net, Kennedy’s quote should have read: “We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it’s not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie …”
Ah well, if Lando isn’t happening then maybe we will get that oft-talked about Obi-Wan Kenobi movie instead.
