Did you know that a Grease sequel was once a possibility – and it wasn’t Grease 2?

Well, according to actress Didi Conn – better known as Frenchy in both Grease (1978) and Grease 2 (1982) – it’s true, so who are we to argue?

According to Conn, the sequel would have featured the original cast including Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. As for the story, well that would have been inspired by a throw-away comment made during the final scene of Grease.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, actress Didi Conn revealed that Paramount Pictures didn’t quite realise the success of Grease, so initially passed on the idea of a sequel. It was only later, when studio heads saw how popular the movie was that they realised they needed to get a sequel into production.

She said: “It was towards the end of filming, we were doing the carnival scene and do you remember when the boys are throwing pies at the coach and he says ‘I’ll see you in summer school’? That was going to be a sequel, with the cast at summer school.” She added: “Paramount was watching the dailies and they said ‘no, we don’t want to do a sequel. This is going to be a nice little summer film’ – and they passed! And then when it was a huge success, John and Olivia were busy and whatever and Grease 2 was born which is very different.”

Of course, there are many fans of Grease 2 out there, but can you imagine if Paramount had realised how successful Grease was going to be? We could have spent the last four decades watching even more Sandy & Danny duets!

Maybe we could have also had an explanation as to why Sandy and Danny flew away in a car at the end of the movie!

Oh, if only…
