On the day when the UK division of Toys R Us begins its roll out of store closures, it has been announced that all US Toys R Us stores will close. According to the BBC, a total of 885 will shut their doors, making approximately 30,000 members of staff redundant.
In a statement, Toys R Us Chief Executive, Dave Brandon, said:
“This is a profoundly sad day for us as well as the millions of kids and families who we have served for the past 70 years. I have always believed that this brand and this business should exist in the US.”
The brand is currently in talks to save 200 of its best-performing stores, to combine these with the Canadian arm of the business. Only time will tell if this plan will be successful.
