Hidden deep within Antarctica lies one of Marvel’s most extraordinary locations: The Savage Land. A prehistoric world where dinosaurs still roam, ancient tribes thrive, and secrets are buried.

As a recurring setting in the X-Men comics, it’s not surprising the Savage Land made its way into X-Men: The Animated Series during the 1990s. The Savage Land became the setting for a couple of memorable stories, and provided the backdrop for an ongoing plot thread during the show’s second season.

Are you familiar with the episodes? Well, if you wish to spend some time in the Savage Land, here are its appearances in the fan-favourite ’90s cartoon.

Season Two

The Savage Land makes its debut in Season Two of X-Men: The Animated Series, where it becomes a key focus of the entire season. The Savage Land first appears in ‘Whatever It Takes‘, but features in almost every episode, largely via an ongoing storyline involving Professor Xavier and Magneto.

The plotline sees the pair stranded in the Savage Land without their mutant abilities. In order to survive, Xavier and Magneto must work together to overcome various obstacles and adversaries, including dinosaurs and Mister Sinister’s minions.

The story culminates in the Season Two, two-part finale, Reunion. In this episode, the X-Men head to the Savage Land to rescue Xavier (and Magneto), and benefit from some help from Savage Land resident, Ka-Zar.

Although the Savage Land doesn’t appear in every episode of Season Two, if you wish to see the Savage Land story play out within the context of the main story arc, then watch Season Two of X-Men: The Animated Series in full. This will allow you to see how Xavier and Magneto found themselves in the Savage Land, and how they escaped.
