Over the years, fast food chain McDonald’s has given away countless toys via the ever popular dining choice, the Happy Meal. From Super Mario and Minecraft, to Barbie and Scooby-Doo, the Happy Meal has offered up a plastic plaything to appeal to youngsters and those who are young at heart.
One of the best sets of Happy Meal toys was given away in 1991. The toys – a cross promotion between McDonald’s, DC Comics and Warner Bros. – saw four iconic Looney Tunes characters reimagined as legendary superheroes.

The set included Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Taz and Petunia Pig. This awesome foursome were reworked to become Superman, Batman, The Flash and Wonder Woman, respectively.
Each week, for four weeks, a different Looney Tunes superhero appeared in Happy Meals. Not only did this make a visit to McDonald’s feel extra special, but it also meant there were four weeks of bloody good toys!

No matter if it was Taz, Daffy or one of the other characters, all four were great little figures. They were cute, brightly coloured, and most important of all they perfectly embodied a ‘looney’ take on their comic book counterparts.
But these weren’t just lumps of plastic – each figure also had a neat little surprise. A quick flick here and there, and their costumes could be removed, turning the heroes into regular cartoon characters.

Pretty cool, right?
This collection of comical comic book characters stood head and shoulders above some of the awesome Happy Meal toys of the era, and to this day they remain a firm favourite.
