Every episode of Batman: The Animated Series featuring the Scarecrow

Below is a list of every episode of Batman: The Animated Series featuring the Scarecrow. This list includes episodes where the Scarecrow was the main villain, as well as episodes featuring small cameo appearances.
In total, the Scarecrow appeared nine times. This breaks down as four main appearances and five cameos, beginning with Nothing to Fear.
Nothing to Fear
In Nothing to Fear a new villain is in Gotham City and he holds a specific grudge against Gotham University. The villain is the Scarecrow – a fearsome foe who uses fear gas to induce nightmarish hallucinations in his victims.
The Scarecrow’s latest victim is Batman. And after the Scarecrow exposes the Dark Knight to his fear gas, Batman begins to have visions of his father telling him he is a failure.
Fear of Victory
In Fear of Victory, something sinister is impacting the world of sport. A number of high-profile sports stars are acting out of character and are unable to take part in their respective games.
As Batman and Robin investigate they uncover a plot involving the Scarecrow. The villain is using a special fear-inducing compound to throw sporting events so he can bet on the opposing team and win big.
Dreams in Darkness
In Dreams in Darkness, Batman is strapped into a straight jacket in Arkham Asylum. As he recounts the reasons as to why he is in this situation, he reveals details of a plot to contaminate the water supply at a Gotham spa.
As he investigates the spa, it becomes clear the Scarecrow is involved. And if Batman doesn’t find a way out of Arkham quickly, the whole of Gotham City will fall at the mercy of the Scarecrow’s latest fear plot.
Never Fear
In Never Fear, Batman investigates a supposed self-help seminar which claims to help remove fear in those who are fearful. But as Batman gets closer to the truth he finds himself stripped of all his fears by the Scarecrow.
Without fear, Batman becomes a danger to himself. It’s up to Robin to help him get back to normal and stop the Scarecrow’s latest reign of terror.

Cameo appearances

In addition to the four episodes listed above, the Scarecrow also appears in five additional episodes via brief cameo appearances. The episodes include:
- Trial
- Lock-up
- Joker’s Wild
- Harley’s Holiday
- Over the Edge
Please note: All of the episodes which feature cameo appearances have been placed at the end of this list, as these are not necessarily Scarecrow stories. The ‘sort of’ exception to this is Over the Edge, which isn’t a Scarecrow episode but he is VERY important to the events of the story.
