Between film, television, radio, the opera, and the theatre, Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel, Wuthering Heights has had many, many adaptations over the years. The latest version makes its debut in 2026, and is quite possibly the most hotly anticipated adaptation yet.
Written and directed by Emerald Fennell, this new take on the classic story boasts a number of key selling points, beginning with Fennell herself. The British filmmaker is an Academy, BAFTA, Emmy, and Golden Globe award winner, who is responsible for delivering two hit movies in recent years, Promising Young Woman (2020) and Saltburn (2023), and this puts Wuthering Heights in good stead.
Incidentally, the latter of Fennell’s two previous movies became a viral sensation when it began streaming on Amazon Prime Video in late 2023. In fact, Saltburn wasn’t just a viral sensation, it caused quite a stir amongst audiences for its provocative content.
So, with Fennell bringing Wuthering Heights to the big screen there’s more provocative content to follow. After all, Wuthering Heights contains a hearty amount of romance and can be quite racy in the right hands, so it’s certainly ripe for a stirring new movie sure to get tongues wagging.
And if you have checked out the initial teaser trailer for Wuthering Heights, those tongues won’t just be wagging, they will probably be falling off. This new movie appears to be a right saucy number, so expect hearts to be fluttering and then some!

The other key selling points of Wuthering Heights are lead stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. The former is a screen sensation, with movies such as The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) and Barbie (2023) under her belt, while the latter was a key player in the aforementioned Saltburn.
In Wuthering Heights the actors will take on the roles of Cathy and Heathcliff respectively, and the Robbie-Elordi pairing is a potential winner. Both have a likeable screen presence, both are easy on the eye, and both have the acting chops to deliver impassioned performances.
And this is pretty much what you want from Wuthering Heights. The story includes a simmering romance between Cathy and Heathcliff, which takes place against the backdrop of the Yorkshire Moors, and this leaves the potential for a lot of “phwoar”, a fair bit of “oo er”, and possibly an on-screen pairing for the ages.

Throw in a score by Anthony Willis, some original songs by Charli XCX, and cinematography from Linus Sandgren (La La Land, No Time to Die, Babylon), and there’s lots to get excited about. Wuthering Heights is already shaping up to be one of the big films of 2026, and its release is still a few months off yet.
However, don’t worry, Wuthering Heights will be here before you know it. Principal photography took place in the UK between January and April 2025, with shooting in Elstree and on location in Yorkshire, so the movie is already in the can and being readied for your viewing pleasure.

As for the release date, well Warner Bros. Pictures are dropping this one out in time for Valentine’s Day. Once again, this seems like another key selling point, so let’s call it what it is.
There are plenty of big movies out in 2026, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Masters of the Universe, and The Odyssey, but expect Wuthering Heights to do well. The stars seem to be aligning for this picture, so call it kismet, call it divine intervention, or just call it a visionary director with a great cast and a classic story, and prepare for an experience that promises to be unlike anything else.
