Raise your hand if you feel like you’ve been missing a bit of Arnold Schwarzenegger lately? OK, now keep your hand raised if you would love to watch a new Arnold Schwarzenegger movie this year.

Let that hand remain in the air if you want that new Arnold Schwarzenegger movie to feature Arnie as Santa Claus. And now wave that hand excitedly, because you’re about to get your wish.

Yep, this October Arnie stars in the Christmas action comedy, The Man with the Bag. The actor appears alongside a cast which includes Alan Ritchson, Awkwafina, Liza Koshy, Kyle Mooney, Ken Jeong, and Jane Krakowski, and will see Schwarzenegger play none other than Saint Nick himself, Santa Claus!

The film is the work of director Adam Shankman and writer Allan Rice. You’ll know Shankman from such films as the Jennifer Lopez rom-com, The Wedding Planner (2001); the John Travolta musical, Hairspray (2007); and most recently Disney’s fantasy sequel, Disenchanted (2022).

Meanwhile, John Debney is composing the music for The Man with the Bag, which should ensure it is in good hands when it comes to the score. Debney has composed a wealth of great movie soundtracks over the years, including Hocus Pocus (1993), I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), End of Days (1999), and holiday favourite, Elf (2003)!

As for the story of The Man with the Bag, the film sees Santa in a difficult situation. Put simply: His sack of presents is stolen!

This is of course bad news for all the children of the world. Keen not to disappoint anyone, Santa enlists the help of a petty thief to help him out.

Now, if you live in New York, you may have seen Schwarzenegger and Ritchson in action, shooting parts of the movie. Both took to the streets of Manhattan last year to film scenes for the new film, which is shaping up to be a highly anticipated holiday picture.

And it’s a picture which will be here before you know it. Produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and Grey Matter Productions, with distribution via Amazon MGM Studios, The Man with the Bag is set to arrive this holiday season, giving you plenty of time to watch it over Christmas.
