As highlighted above, Charlize Theron started her movie career small, with an uncredited role in Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest. From here she took parts in the Tom Hanks movie, That Thing You Do, before appearing in 2 Days in the Valley and Hollywood Confidential.

In 1997, Theron appeared opposite Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino in The Devil’s Advocate, while in 1998 she starred in the action-adventure picture, Mighty Joe Young. Other movies in this decade included The Astronaut’s Wife and The Cider House Rules.

Moving into the 2000s, and Theron kick-started the decade working opposite Ben Affleck in Reindeer Games, before appearing in The Yards with Mark Wahlberg, Men of Honour with Robert De Niro, and The Legend of Bagger Vance with Will Smith.

Plenty more movies followed, including another film with Wahlberg, 2003’s The Italian Job, and another with Smith, 2008’s Hancock. However, arguably Theron’s biggest role came via director Petty Jenkins’ Monster.

Playing the role of real-life killer, Aileen Wuornos, Theron delivered a powerful, and transformative performance. It was a performance which raised Theron’s profile and instantly became a key role in her career.
