In 1988, Steven Seagal kick-started his film career in the martial arts movie, Above the Law. The film proved to be a hit with audiences, and quickly established Seagal as an action star.

As noted above, Steven Seagal started his movie career at the tail end of the 1980s, playing the role of Nico Toscani in Above the Law. He then slid into the 1990s with Hard to Kill and Marked for Death, before finding great success with the 1992 action thriller, Under Siege, opposite Tommy Lee Jones.

The 1990s proved to be a significant decade for Seagal. The actor had many of his most commercially successful films during this time and for a while was a box office draw.

Onto the 2000s and Seagal’s workload increased considerably, as the actor went from movie, to movie, to movie. During this time almost all of his films were direct-to-video titles, rather than theatrical releases, but the films kept on coming.
