How to watch Ray Donovan in order

In 2013, US crime drama, Ray Donovan hit television screens. The show – created by Ann Biderman – made its debut on Showtime and followed the story of ‘fixer’ Ray Donovan – an associate who fixes problems for powerful and prestigious Los Angeles law firm, Goldman & Drexler.

Actor Liev Schreiber took on the title role for the series playing Ray – a man who arranges payoffs, bribes, and clean-ups for celebrity clients. Schreiber acted alongside a cast which included Paula Malcomson, Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, and Pooch Hall, with Jon Voight playing Ray’s father, menacing ex-con Mickey Donovan.

When Ray Donovan first hit screens, the show was very popular with viewers. The pilot episode broke viewership records, becoming Showtime’s biggest premiere at the time, and this led to multiple seasons and a movie.

Understanding Ray Donovan

As noted above, Ray Donovan first hit screens in 2013. The pilot episode was an instant success, and was quickly followed by a collection of weekly instalments.

The first season ran for a total of 12 episodes, and due to the show’s popularity it was recommissioned for a second season, which aired in 2014. Season two also comprised 12 episodes, and was also a hit, and this was followed by a third season of another 12 episodes in 2015.

Season four followed in 2016, with season five debuting in 2017, and season six arriving in 2018. As with their predecessors, each of these seasons included 12 episodes.

In 2019, the seventh season of Ray Donovan aired. Unfortunately for fans, Showtime announced they had cancelled the series at this point, concluding the show’s run with ten episodes for this final year – two episodes less than previous seasons.

Although this was the end of the Ray Donovan series, the show’s popularity remained high. Countless loyal fans petitioned Showtime for more, and much to their surprise the station took note and announced a television film would follow in 2022, to provide a conclusion to the series.
