Fans of ‘70s cult horror rejoice, because a true creepy classic is finally being given the HD treatment!
Legendary television series, Kolchak: The Night Stalker is being brought to Blu-ray.
Released in the US on October 12th 2021 (just in time for Halloween) Kolchak: The Night Stalker – The Complete Series gives the entire TV series a 2K makeover. The Blu-ray boxset, from KL Studio Classics, will include all 20 episodes of the show, all re-mastered, alongside a wealth of special features.
The special features in the boxset include: A new interview with David Chase (co-writer on eight Kolchak episodes), a new interview with Dana Gould, and 14 original (and re-mastered) TV spots, as well as a booklet essay by Mark Dawidziak – the author of The Night Stalker Companion.
In addition to this, the set also includes a whopping 21 brand new audio commentaries across the 20 episodes, featuring names ranging from British horror critic Kim Newman and film historian Tim Lucas, to screenwriter Cyrus Voris and filmmaker Michael Schlesinger, amongst many others.
All of the above will be split across four discs and housed in a clamshell box with a slipcase. The slipcase showcases newly commissioned art by Mark Maddox.
For those unfamiliar with the show, Kolchak: The Night Stalker was a spin-off of two hit TV movies, The Night Stalker (1972) and The Night Strangler (1973) – both of which have previously been released on Blu-ray. The movies and the series followed the story of Carl Kolchak – a reporter who investigates supernatural crimes.
Each week, Kolchak would look into a case involving unexplained phenomena, covering stories about vampires, werewolves, and even Jack the Ripper. Kolchak: The Night Stalker starred Darren McGavin and aired for one season between 1974 and 1975.
Although Kolchak: The Night Stalker was short-lived, the show has developed a loyal following over the years, with one of its most famous fans being X-Files creator, Chris Carter. Carter has gone on record multiple times to highlight how Kolchak inspired The X-Files, making it a must-see series for fans.
