In 1972, action-adventure medical drama, Emergency! made its debut. The television series, which initially aired on NBC in the US, followed the story of two firefighter paramedics, who form a medical and rescue unit known as Squad 51, as they carry out emergency operations in Los Angeles.
Starring Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe, as John Gage and Roy DeSoto respectively, Emergency! followed the duo as they embark on dangerous rescues. Gage and DeSoto were accompanied by a team of Emergency Room staff including Dr. Kelly Brackett, Dixie McCall, Dr. Joe Early, and Dr. Mike Morton, and the series was known for its exciting mix of action and drama.
When Emergency! made its debut, the show proved popular with viewers and ran for multiple seasons. The series was also accompanied by a collection of television movies too, which furthered the story.
But if you’re completely new to Emergency! you may be asking how many seasons were broadcast, how many movies are there, and what is the correct viewing order?! Well, if these sound like questions you need answers to, then keep on reading.

Understanding Emergency!

When Emergency! made its debut it was via the pilot movie, Emergency! The Wedsworth-Townsend Act. The feature-length TV movie aired on January 15th 1972, introduced Roy DeSoto and John Gage, and established the need for on-the-spot medical assistance from LA firefighters.
A week after the pilot movie hit television screens, the first regular episode of the show (‘Mascot‘) aired. The episode proved to be a hit, and was followed by ten further instalments, keeping the series on air until April.
Due to the popularity of the first season, a second season was commissioned, hitting screens in September 1972. The season continued until April 1973, before being followed by a third season between 1973 and 1974, a fourth season between 1974 and 1975, and a fifth season between 1975 and 1976.
In September 1976, the sixth and final season began airing with the episode ‘Game‘. The series ran until May 1977, concluding with the episode ‘All Night Long’, by which point Emergency! appeared to be at an end.
However, this wasn’t quite the case, and thanks to a loyal fan-base, Emergency! was revived in 1978 through a series of six television movies, beginning with The Steel Inferno. The movie focused on a fire in a tower building.
The Steel Inferno was then followed in 1978 by Survival on Charter #220, Most Deadly Passage, and Greatest Rescues of Emergency!, and then in 1979 with What’s a Nice Girl Like You Doing and The Convention. The Convention would be the final instalment of Emergency!, and brought the series to an end.
