In December 2023, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire made its debut. The science-fiction fantasy movie, directed by Zack Snyder, was set in a fictional galaxy and told the story of a former soldier who recruits warriors to help protect a village.
In the movie, a warship from the Motherworld lands on the planet Veldt, looking to buy supplies from a peaceful farming community. But what could be a simple transaction soon turns into hostility and violence when a group of soldiers attack one of the villagers.
Unable to turn a blind eye, soldier-turned-farmer, Kora steps in and saves the villager but brings potential danger to the village. Aware she needs to protect everyone from repercussions, Kora sets out to find a team of warriors who will agree to stand against those looking to retaliate.
Released in select cinemas on the 15th December 2023, before arriving on Netflix from 22nd December, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire was devised as an original multi-chapter sci-fi epic. The movie would tell a sprawling saga, which would expand beyond one film, and would introduce a whole host of imaginative characters and locations.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
As noted above, the first entry in the Rebel Moon movie series arrived in late 2023. The film focused on Kora, and her attempts to recruit experienced warriors to defend her village from attack.
In the movie, Kora and fellow farmer Gunnar set off to find warriors willing to join their cause. The pair find a number of willing recruits (Tarak, Darrian, Devra, etc) but the journey is far from plain sailing.
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Before Rebel Moon – Part One was released to audiences, Zack Snyder had already started work on the second instalment in the saga. The Rebel Moon story was planned as a multi-chapter series, with Part One arriving in 2023 and Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver in 2024.
In this second entry, Kora and her warriors prepare to defend the villagers on the planet Veldt from an attack by the Realm. Along the way, the warriors face up to their pasts and reveal their motivations before the Realm’s forces arrive to defeat the growing rebellion.
And now onto the Director’s Cuts…
Rebel Moon – Chapter 1: Chalice of Blood
A few days after the release of Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, Netflix announced a director’s cut of the movie would be making its debut in 2024. Director Zack Snyder is known for producing lavish, extended cuts of his movies (Watchmen, Justice League, etc), and Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire would be no different.
This alternate cut of the movie – which was retitled as Rebel Moon – Chapter 1: Chalice of Blood – would tell the same story, but it would expand upon the original version. The director’s would also be an R-rated take on the material.
Rebel Moon – Chapter 2: Curse of Forgiveness
Following suit with the director’s cut of Rebel Moon – Part One, Netflix announced a director’s cut for Part Two was also in the pipeline. Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver – Director’s Cut would be retitled Rebel Moon – Chapter 2: Curse of Forgiveness, would expand upon the original cut, and would be R-rated.
