In 1993, tense action-thriller, The Fugitive, dashed its way into cinemas. The film – based on the hugely successful 1960s television series of the same name – starred Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, and followed the story of Dr. Richard Kimble – a man wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife.

Upon release The Fugitive was met with a warm reception from critics and audiences alike and proved to be a success at the box office. As such, it was soon followed by a loose sequel, as well as a few remakes.

But how many The Fugitive movies are there? For all the details, keep reading.

Are the movies all part of the same series?

The five movies listed above are not all connected. The movies break down as follows:

  • The Fugitive (1993) and U.S. Marshals – The Fugitive is a remake of the 1960s television show of the same name, with Harrison Ford playing Dr. Richard Kimble and Tommy Lee Jones playing U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard. After the success of The Fugitive the film was followed by U.S. Marshals – a loose sequel which focused on Sam Gerard as he pursued another fugitive.
  • Criminal – Criminal is an Indian action-thriller loosely inspired by The Fugitive. The film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages.
  • Nirnayam – Nirnayam is an Indian Malayalam-language crime thriller, also inspired by The Fugitive.
  • The Fugitive (2000) – Not technically a movie, The Fugitive is a feature-length pilot episode of the 2000 television series of the same name, starring Tim Daly as Dr. Richard Kimble. The reason it is listed here as a ‘movie’ is because in some territories this pilot episode was released as a film on DVD and VHS, under the title ‘The Fugitive: The Chase Continues‘.
