In 2018, romantic comedy, Book Club, arrived in cinemas. The film, directed and co-written by Bill Holderman, followed the story of four friends who read a copy of saucy novel, Fifty Shades of Grey as part of their book club, and then change their views about their own relationships as a result.
Released to mixed reviews, Book Club was not particularly popular with critics upon release, however the film proved successful at the box-office. Produced on a budget of $14.1 million, the picture grossed over $104.4 million, pretty much guaranteeing a sequel in the process.
