In 1987, psychological horror movie, The Stepfather made its debut. The movie – which starred Terry O’Quinn – followed the story of an identity-assuming serial killer, who marries a widow, but refuses to give up his murderous ways.

Loosely based on real-life mass murderer, John List, The Stepfather was well received when it opened in cinemas and proved to be a box-office success. As such, a series of sequels soon followed, as well as a remake.
