In 1995, Japanese anime film, Slayers: The Motion Picture made its debut. The animated movie was based on a series of light novels by Hajime Kanzaka, and followed the story of young sorceresses Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent, as they cross paths with an evil force while vacationing on the magical island of Mipross.
When Slayers: The Motion Picture made its debut the film was met with a positive reception from critics, as well as a strong response from general audiences. As such, a Slayers sequel soon followed in 1996, under the appropriate title of Slayers Return.
This film also proved popular, so was quickly followed by further movies. These movies continued to develop the story and flesh out the world of Slayers, building up a loyal fanbase in the process.

Did Slayers also spawn a collection of OVAs?
In addition to the feature-length movies, the Slayers franchise also spawned two sets of ‘Original Video Animations’ (OVAs). These OVAs were self-contained specials, divided into two sets of three episodes, the first set of three fell under the title Slayers Specials, while the second set was called Slayers Excellent.
