New to Netflix from today is the Polish romance-drama, Tonight You’re Sleeping With Me. The movie – directed by Robert Wichrowski – is based on a novel by Anna Szczypczynska, stars Roma Gasiorowska and Maciej Musial, and tells the story of a married woman called Nina, who embarks on an affair with a younger man.
In the movie, Nina is a successful, career-driven woman with two children and a husband. Nina has been married for nine years, and has built up a good life for herself, but she is no longer happy in her marriage.
The spark between Nina and her husband is no longer there, and he is not very helpful or attentive to her needs. For the most part, she shrugs off the issues in her home life, but she is less than pleased with how things have worked out.
But things change for Nina when an old flame called Janek starts working in her office. Many years ago, Nina and Janek had a relationship, which was filled with passion, and seeing him again reminds her of the good times.
Over the next few days, Nina and Janek become reacquainted and old feelings begin to surface. But is it wise for the pair to act upon their feelings, or will it cause further complications for Nina?

Listed under the genre category of ‘sex’ on Netflix, and with a title such as ‘Tonight You’re Sleeping With Me’, you would be forgiven for thinking this film was some highly-charged, erotic drama, filled with multiple scenes of bonking. However, it isn’t really that at all, and while the movie does contain one (very brief) sex scene, there’s nothing highly-charged or erotic about this film.
Instead, Tonight You’re Sleeping With Me is a fairly bland, largely very dull piece, about two people who briefly embark on an affair, which is mostly thought about, rather than acted upon. There’s nothing really sensual, titillating, or exotic in this picture, and the vast majority of the film is about a bunch of miserable people, looking miserable, and being miserable.

The film also doesn’t offer any new insights into marital affairs that hasn’t already been covered in various other movies. The story here is nothing new, nothing dynamic or original, it’s the sort of thing that often gets served up in bog-standard TV dramas.
Want to know why Nina wants to have an affair? Well it’s simple: She’s pretty, he’s cute, and her husband’s a jerk. There’s really nothing more to it.
The film spends an hour-and-a-half dragging out this story, and it is incredibly boring to watch. There’s no suspense, no tension, and no scenes of spectacle, just a plodding story that goes on, and on, and on.

The cast do what they can with the material, and it is competently put together, but this is a ‘by-the-numbers’ film which has nothing much to say. People have affairs, it happens all the time, and unless you’re desperate to watch someone going down that path, then I’m not entirely sure what else this film has to offer?
Tonight You’re Sleeping With Me is dull, underwhelming, and not worth your time. Watch something else, and thank me later.

My answer is, 1st off, upon realizing later in the movie that Maciek ran off to the desert terrain of a volcano in Iceland because he could no longer ‘stand’ his wife. He showed his cards to the viewer that he was a ‘jerk’. No affair(s). Nothing work related. Nothing. He just rain off into the barren wilderness. Alone. Just dominating and self-absorbed (ie, Nina says she only has Janek has all things [around them two]: Car(s), House (design/decor) and breadwinner. She only has “the two girls”]. Janek left because Nina wanted to end “it” (affair) between them. But he says he’ll always be there for her…as he left for Amsterdam. In the end, Maciek professed his love but became ‘half-vegetable’ because of his accident. And now she can “care” for him (just for “show” for their 2 children until they’re 18) as he’s now a quadriplegic. YES! But because her husband is immobile and bedridden. She can freely have a relationship with Janek behind her 2 daughters’ backs until they’re 18 OR a few years before they turn 18 years old. You know, gradually transition/introduce Janek permanently into her young children’s lives 5 – 6 years down the line or sooner…on the auspices that she was “physically” lonely because their father (father’s “body”) couldn’t have sex anymore. So she got the best of both worlds, in a twisted way. 1. Excuse to her kids LONGTERM why she left their Dad for Janek. 2. Take Janek up on his “rain-check” because Maciek can’t physically interfere.

In the end, Maciek professed his love or Nina but it was too late because he’d become ‘half-vegetable’ because of his accident. Lastly, now the unspoken plan to viewer of movie was that she can “care” for Maciek (just for “show” for their 2 children until they’re 18) as he’s now a quadriplegic. YES!
